Thirst

Hydration

Remember to stay hydrated. Its a major part of the competition so here are some things to think about.

Be aware of your thirst and drink fluids often throughout the day.

Choose water to drink when you are thirsty. Avoid soft drinks.

Keep water nearby when you are hiking within easy reach, this will mean you don't have to stop to find your water bottle.

Choose decaffeinated drinks more often to keep you well hydrated. Drinks with caffeine should be limited to 3 cups per day.

Take sips of water while eating meals and snacks.

If you feel thirsty chances are that you are starting to dehydrate. So slowly sip your water rather than gulping it.

Try to keep your water chilled as best as possible.

Remember to drink more in hot weather and when you are very active.

Using items such as hydration bladders mean you can carry more water with you, with the advantage of spreading the weight of the fluid.
